These rankings are as of the episodes premiering April 25th to May 1st
S: Must Watch
Episodes I believe you must watch or are missing out on.
1. Kowloon Generic Romance. Ep. 4
Bro what is going on! Man this episode took some wild turns at the end that I was not ready for.
Let’s start with the beggining, I really like Yaomei. Not only is her voice actress great, thank you Kaguya -sama, but she cares for Kujirai and that is always great to see for characters that need the support like Kujirai does.
Now to the end.
Mr. Chan dissapearing as he did was insane. I’m sure it has to with the Terra device in the sky, whatever the case may be it seems two cannot exist. And so, it is likely that the Gwen we first met is also gone.
As for Kujirai, the reveal of her death was also a surprise. But I wonder just how Judo is involved in her death. I’m sure we will know more soon, but man the reveals and the continuing mystery are just fanstastic.
I, for now, am wondering if the Terra device creates a replica of place, such as Kowloon, and keeps it in perfect conditions. This also means there can be no replicates however. But also that Kujirai now exists despite another version of her is dead.
Is this 1? I think so, the mystery is just so good and the story telling has me gripped.
Watch this!
2. Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX. Ep.4
Yuzu took a big back seat this episode, but for good reason.
I always enjoy characters like the witch. War has a tremendous effect on everyone within it, not just fighters, but at times even more so for them. In this case, the obsession for revenge took the enjoyment from part of her life, but has even led to her dying with memories of that which loved just at the end.
Shuuji is very interesting despite how little we know of him. I am still of the mind that his gundam is sentient, but that is as far as we know for now. I hope Yuzu will continue to improve as well, or she may be left behind for the dangers that are sure to come.
There is also a chance we will go to earth which would be cool to see. Shuuji mentions a flower, but I wonder what more lies in wait for them.
Great episode overall, 9 witches out of 10 Shuujis.
3. Lazarus. Ep.4
No No I refuse!
Easily the best episode so far, outstanding animation, style, and direction that made the actions scenes a joy to watch. This is up there with some of their JJK stuff for MAPPA in terms of animation.
Dr. 909 was cool and the reveal of how he was able to do as he did was great, but it is unfortunate that he has no connection with the Skinner himself.
Leland makes for a great girl, but Christine looked too good in my opinion. Alongside Axel, I believe she stole the show with those actions scenes. Watching them fight together was great, but man there is no way Axel is a normal person.
The ending of this episode leaves us with some dread as well. While Skinner gave a time frame, it seems there may be some that begin to die early and that is terrifying. It would hurt to lose someone from the main cast, but I believe it would add imcredible wieght to this story.
Putting this in must watch now, excellent episode. 9 Femboy Lenands out of 10 dress Christines.
4. Konosuba S3 OVA 1/2
Man, I forgot how funny this anime is. It’s one of the funniest to ever be made and has mastered comedic timing as shown by these two episodes.
The first OVA focuses on the Madame great spirit losing control and the adventurers of the village using it as a ploy to catch some eye candy. Of course, Kazuma is all for it, I would be as well. Megumin’s pettiness is great, Kazuma remains the only one with sense, Yun Yun finally feels happiness, and Aqua getting sent across the sky like a rag doll was incredible to see. A solid reminder as to why this anime is beloved, and we get two!
The second episode focuses on the antitheses of our team. Yes, team Kazuma but with morality and braincells. One of my favorite things about Konosuba is that the team are bunch a of terrible people that make up a hell of a team, some might say the best team. Were they like their antithesis, they may be unstoppable, but there would be no fun in that. My favorite part of the episode is Kazamu telling his tale; he dones’t lie, but his actions being misinterpreted will forever be funny and I hope it never ends.
This second episode made me like Aqua more than ever however, her voice actress is just something. The alcholic has a hold on me for now, but that may change in the eventual - at least I pray for it - fourth season.
Konosuba deserves it, bring it now!
A: Very Good
Good episodes, anime I would recommend to someone looking for something to watch.
5. Lycoris Recoil. Ep. 3
Man, Chisat'o’s voice actress, one second… Anzai Chika, is incredible as Chisato. There’s so much character and love conveyed through the voice alone and it reminds of what was enjoyable about the first season.
These shorts have been a lot of fun and have me hoping more anime will do them.
The struggle of making new items for a restaurant will always be dauting. Me personally, I’d be the booty parfait in a heartbeat.
6. Aharen-San. Ep. 4
Raido is the heart of the show, his assumptions being over the top never gets old. He’s also super supportive of Aharen which makes him even better.
Gyaru Raido was great, the guy has a talent for getting into character if nothing, I’m half surprised we didn’t idol Raido today but never say never.
We’ve seen rapper Raido, Gyary Raido, drunk Raido, but I want biker crew Raido. Whatever he may come out as next, it’ll be a lot of fun.
Not to rub sand on the wound, but the short session of Aharen’s performance had more animation than the beggining after the end has had in four episodes. Oof.
8 gyaru Raido’s out of ten Aharen idols.
7. Wind Breaker S2. Ep. 5
A nice episode with Sakura taking the leap he feared before. It’s always great to see character growth, especially from anime like Wind Breaker that do focus on fights.
Tsubaki stole the episode this time around. Their introduction is nice and is used to show how kind and accepting Sakura is despite his Tsundere nature. I have heard that Tsubaki is quite strong so I’d like to see them in a fight soon.
Other than that, now I want some omelet rice. 8 Tsubaki smiles out of 10 Sakura blushes.
8. Apothecary Diaries. Ep. 40
Wow, I do not expect that twist at all. We know of the resentment towards the late emperor and now of some of the culprits behind plots against high level concubines, but MaoMao’s wits have gotten her into some major trouble.
I wonder where they plan to take MaoMao, she’s too much of a problem to be left alone, but I also doubt those that care for her will overlook the matter.
Loumen continues to be a great character as well. The reason he became a doctor is admirable but he also has a talent for it as well. He may play a role in looking for MaoMao, but I also hope the concubines remain safe.
9. Witch Watch, Ep. 4
Another nice episode, with each one I like Nico more and more. Despite often leading to hilarious mishaps, she is a good witch and I’m interested in seeing what she can really do if serious.
Mio and Kanshi will make for a good team as well. They are polar opposites, but Mio’s pure strength will benefit from Kanshi’s skills as we saw in this episode.
Now, is there another magic user in school? Most signs point to yes and I look forward to seeing who it is, and if anymore people we will add to the team.
B: Good/Solid
Yandere Dark Elf. Ep.4
The biggest cockblock of the century right there, just do it big dog.
I like Cecil and Mei, design wise and character wise. I’d like to see them all at full power, and maybe even Hinata as well.
But enough of that, we’re here to goon. And oh boy, there was some spice in this one. I don’t blame Hinata for struggling against Mariabelle either, most would have folded by now. I do wonder how there relationship would end however, maybe I’ll look for spoilers once the anime is done.
C: It’s ok/Fine
These are shows I happen to pick up but struggle to finish. Still watchable, but not without a good break in between episodes.
Makina-san's a Love Bot?! Ep. 4
Crazy question at the end, Eita jump on that.
Well, at least this episode added some comedy. Eita running out and pulling Makina out got a chuckle out of me. If they lean more into their new dynamic and some fun hijinks because of it then I won’t mind Eita as much but he’s wack.
6 fallen legs out of 10 stalkers.
D: Do Not Recommend
Shows I do not recommend you not watch for various issues.
The Beginning After the End. Ep. 5
Ok, this anime is more sad than anything. I think this episode plants many seeds for what could be an interesting story as the fans of the source material rave about, but it is held back by the animation.
The actions is just frame skip after frame skip; they try to hide it by adding the different panels of reactions and the like but it isn’t effective.
In another world, this has stellar animation and is up there for something worth watching. But, as it is now, I can’t recommend it. I will keep with it however, the story is picking up.
F: Bad
Anime with glaring issues that make them not only difficult to watch, but the watcher angry at times.
Some words
More to come soon! AND! Surprise entry!
Sinners
I don’t often put other things in here, but I’d like to give a quick word on Sinners. You may have heard of it, I’d like to say it’s phenomenal. There is a certain scene revolving around music that is otherworldly, literally and figuratively. It’s a phenomenal horror film that, while I didn’t find it all that scary, gives such an entertaining story accompanied by stellar performances and great music that I just have to recommend it.
