Anime Spring 2025 Weekly Ranking May 16th to May 22nd
These rankings are as of the episodes premiering May 16th to May 22nd
S: Must Watch
Episodes I believe you must watch or are missing out on.
1. Kowloon Generic Romance. Ep. 7
Man as soon as they decided to go to Hong Kong I questioned if Kujirai could leave given the hints we have on what Kowloon is. I hope they continue to reveal more about why some can and others can’t see Kowloon or its people, and why they do exist in some capacity.
Lots of reveals around Kujirai this episode, the description of generic is vague but it did give Kujirai some peace of mind. Still, Kudo visiting at midnight hurt a lot. The look of heartbreak was conveyed well, and Kujirai deciding not to move made me smile as she really cares for them, much to Yaomei dismay.
The flash of Gwen and Miyuki was cool to see as well, it hurts to be attractive it seems. The true focus is Miyuki’s plan for revenge however. It’s twisted and evil, but I believe he will stop at nothing to succeed and Kujirai may play a part in it a she is an example of what he wants to create.
On a final note, are they making Yaomei and Kujirai more attractive each episode?
9 steps out of 10, please don’t take that last one right now Kujirai.
2. Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX. Ep.7
Doooooooog! Commander Bull absolutely destroyed everyone. There are levels to the this but man I never thought the difference would be so overwhelming.
Where the Shuuji go? Are Nyaan and Amate going to end up fighting for different sides now?
It comes back to the Kira Kira. It’s like an incredibly addicting drug as we see everyone lose composure when it the threat of it being taken away exists. Now that Amate is deemed a terrorist, she has no choice but to stay with Bull, but because of this I see an ending similar to Shiiko for either Nyaan or Amate.
Good lord things got real super quick. 9 gunshots out of 10 separations.
3. Lazarus. Ep.7
Man, the OST at the end was simply amazing, for it to sound how the show feels to watch is simply incredible.
Very glad they explored the idea of Skinner being right. With the rising water around the world killing off many island and cities, the inability for humans to adapt and change to prevent such things is a prominent issue today. It’s likely we’ll even see major changes in our life times, for better or worse.
Dragon giving the coordinates for the four islands was also cool, followed with the reveal Hersch was part of Skinners team only adds to the mystery and there will be questions of just how much she knows about Skinner and Hapna.
If nothing else, we at least know there are some that will survive like the islanders that didn’t take Hapuna.
We’re deep into this anime now, and we’re going to start getting closer to the answers of Skinners whereabouts, but the question remains if it is even worth finding him in exchange for the beautiful planet.
8.5 boats out of 10 water planes.
A: Very Good
Good episodes, anime I would recommend to someone looking for something to watch.
4. Wind Breaker S2. Ep. 8
Kanji is so cool man. Sakura still has a long way to go to reach the level of people like Kanji, but he takes it in and is willing to change so it will be great to see him become like that.
The fight animation was great once again, they just don’t fail in that respect. Shizuka’s singing was also great, I get why everyone is after her with a voice like that.
Now, give us Tsubaki!
8 suits out of 10 fruit salads.
5. Lycoris Recoil. Ep. 6 FINAL
What?! This is it?? Man, I really enjoyed this short series and would have loved more.
Yes, the idea of high school running around with guns and nice uniforms to keep the peace of Japan alive is a silly yet incredible concept. Just as they have fans, this short series has made me one too as I now remember how likable the characters are.
Overall, the short series was great and well welcomed though news of following project focused on this series doesn’t have much more except that they are working on it.
I for one do look forward to it, but I wonder if they will focus on the levity as they have now, or have a great dramatic series as the first season was.
9/10, not bad at all.
6. Aharen-San. Ep. 7
Never seen Aharen show this much emotion and it made me really happy that she did. The two are just perfect for each other, but I’m honestly surprised Raido forgot his ticket given how he often overreacts. I thought he would have it taped to himself or something along those lines.
The sibling waiting for a souvenir was also great. I thought she had broken something of his and was hoping he wouldn’t be too mad but Raido once again shows why he’s a great guy.
7. Witch Watch, Ep. 6
Becoming a youtuber isn’t as easy as it seems! Having the creativity and skill to create videos is difficult enough, but there is also the component of luck that most don’t have. Still, I believe Nico and Kanshi had something if they kept going, the world may never know.
This episode also proves that Moi is a great friend and willing to go above and beyond for others. Not considering the differences in bodies is funny, though the group lucked out with Moi was allowed to perform what he has truly mastered his entire life. I wonder if we’ll get some shonen action to really show off his skills.
8 camera glasses out of 10 youtube channels.
B: Good/Solid
Yandere Dark Elf. Ep.7
The collab with the magical was super unexpected but incredible for the gooners. What a time to be alive.
Now then, I see a bit of a scuffle coming soon with Sakura being pushed to confess in the future. I’m sure Belle won’t take kindly to this, but the possibility of a harem is always there.
Will it happen? No, this is Machida we’re talking about.
As such, bad ending inbound.
7 porridges out of 10 baths.
C: It’s ok/Fine
These are shows I happen to pick up but struggle to finish. Still watchable, but not without a good break in between episodes.
Please Put Them On, Takamine-san. Ep 8
Takamine appearing out of nowhere was great, seeing the man she loves with another beautiful woman had her ready to take both their heads.
Ellie is nice as well, but we’re going to lose out on the degeneracy of love feud as Ellie understands what they feel for each other.
This episode had some wild scenes as well, but Takamine’s words were on par.
7 Sumires out of 10 Uesakas.
Makina-san's a Love Bot?! Ep. 7
Oh boy Eita has been outed.
Checking out your own crotch with a mirror is insane, or maybe right for health reasons? I’m not sure, but I will say Makina’s head on the new body is a funny look to me and I hope we get more funny swaps.
For now, she needs her body back, as broken it may be. My only question is how they will do it, can they just pry the head off?
Things could get crazy next episode, but that’s what I want from ecchis.
6 bodies out of 10 outings.
D: Do Not Recommend
Shows I do not recommend you watch for various issues.
The Beginning After the End. Ep. 8
Alright, we’ve set up the next arc here. But, this episode was another major disappointment as the still image fights continue.
It’s nice to see Arthur back with his family, and Eleanor is truly adorable. It is understandable that Arthur is hesitant about what he will do now given that he just returned, so am I interested in what will come next for him.
This episode made me want to go see Paul vs Rudeus however, and I will.
5/10.
F: Bad
Anime with glaring issues that make them not only difficult to watch, but the watcher angry at times.
Some words
More to come soon!
