These rankings are as of the episodes premiering July 18th to July 24th
S: Must Watch
Episodes I believe you must watch or are missing out on.
1. Takopi’s Original Sin. Ep. 4
Let’s take a vote, who’s a worse person? Shizuka or Azuma’s mom?
Azuma’s mom pisses me off like no other really. She places unnecessary pressure on Azuma, and doesn’t act like a mother in my opinion. To her, Junya and Azuma are just heirs she must train but this ha led to Azuma’s mental state deteriorate over time.
I will say, Azuma liking Shizuka because she looks like his mother was a nice touch.
Good lord, Shizuka is such a natural manipulator it’s actually insane how good she is. I’m not even sure she realizes how good she is at it.
Junya’s a good brother, I’m glad he brought Azuma back from the brink though the poor kid will stay face some consequences from helping Shizuka.
Now that Shizuka is alone, I see no happy ending. Realizing that Chappy is dead will be the final straw, but she’s still going to make that trip to Tokyo. Very much looking forward to the last two episodes.
I really thought Azuma was going to jump off a bridge or something, the write does an incredible job at keeping us on the edge.
9.5/10
2. Call of The Night. Ep. 3
Anko is something man, but I’m surprised she didn’t go for the kill. I guess it is because there were other vampires there, but she’s physically gifted as well. She’s for sure going to be more of a problem as the series progresses, I only hope we don’t have to kill her in the end.
Listen, Kabura is my type, but dating a nurse is a big no unfortunately. Love all my nurses out there, but rumors stem from truth. Anyway, is it possible that it was Kabrua that turned Nazuna? Or that Kabura knows of how Nazuna turned? She knows something, and I’m very happy we’re getting more of her fine self now.
40 isn’t old, 8.5/10
3. Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. Ep. 3
The idol performance was nice, wish they would have done the whole thing.
I like that Nodoka is able to see her own mistakes. She has her faults, as every character in this anime does, but the ability to understand this makes for a great character.
Self doubt is an issue that affects most if not everyone. Uzuki’s worries about not being able to make it to Bukodan despite her constant reassurances to the group must have been heart wrenching as she began to wonder why her own teammates would even continue knowing they are so far away from their goal. But, there' is beauty in that struggle.
I’m glad Uzuki has made the best decision for herself, I see no reason for her not to do both.
8.5/10, you’re a filthy cheater Sakuta.
What a twist at the end man.
A: Very Good
Good episodes, anime I would recommend to someone looking for something to watch.
4. Kaiju No. 8. Ep. 1
As I remember, Kafka is incredibly likable. I believe part of it is him being an older guy as well, I like the recent wave of older main characters.
I always like when the strongest character is a goofball, Narumi is just that. My only hope is that he will be able to draw out the strength of those joining him. Also, are they allowed to use godzilla?
The OP is magical by the way, what a voice. I also like the OST giving homage to the classic kaiju themes, great touch.
Missed you Kafka, 8.5/10
5. Arknights: Rise from Ember. Ep. 3
They put guard through all that for nothing man, just knock the girl out.
I enjoy how this anime conveys the loss from war. It’s never pretty, and Rosmontis eyes are desolate after realizing the losses of her family. Still, the strength to pull though and continue to work when needed is commendable and made we really like her even more. How she came to be is also really messed up, though she has been made strong because of it.
Patriot’s design is badass, and his character is just as good as well. Both sides have people fighting for what they believe in, unfortunately we do have others who take it to the extremes like Talulah. They’re going to fight now, my heart can only take so much.
8/10
6. Dan Da Dan. Ep. 4
Mom’s team up with the priest and the old hag was fantastic. The only problem is that evil eye Jiji is a menace. Man seeing Mantisan return was crazy as well, but not as great as grandma Ayase showing up from the heavens. This was truly a weird episode that I expected from this anime. Even Taro got to show up and me laughing at the absurdity that I am enjoying.
Scared me for a bit there, anime would have taken a major dark turn if they actually killed Okarun here. It was sweet that he held onto Turbo granny, they can’t fool me.
The animation this episode was also great, some crisp running and fighting. Grandma Ayase showed that the younglings still have some ways to go with how easily she beat Jiji here.
8.5/10 Chiquitita is too cute.
7. My Dress-Up Darling. Ep. 3
Behind all the cosplay and cute animation of Marin running around and gushing over Gojo (warranted), dress up darling is a story of accepting others for their hobbies and passion, despite old perceptions of such things.
Marin is the glowing case for this with how accepting and supportive she is of others. Her outright brashness is needed to help someone like Gojo however, and that’s why I like them as a couple so much. In time young ones, in time.
Gojo finding someone with a similar experience is also good for him, though hearing how they handled hasn’t resonated just yet. Marin of course is a sweetheart, a prime reason Dress Up Darling became as popular as it is.
8/10, do what you want so long as you’re not hurting anyone.
8. Sakamoto Days. Ep 3
Was a little scared there for Ms. Sakamoto, but forgot Nagumo’s ability. This was another showcase of just how far above Nagumo and the group are over everyone else. I think even Sakamoto would struggle if he’s only at 30%.
Nagumo’s style is great, just what I want from a crazy killer. How he forced his opponent to choose was fantastic and the S ranking is justified for how big the difference in strength was.
I love that Sakamoto is still a beast though, catching a bullet with chopsticks is a crazy feat. Even as a big guy, he’s crazy strong, but I like that he learned to adapt to his current body in this episode. It makes him dangerous in both forms, which is a terrifying thing for everyone else.
8/10, I need to try acupuncture.
9. Witch Watch, Ep. 16
There is no way Morihito doesn’t know right. I know for a fact he represses himself because he sees himself as nothing more than her protector.
Being different can be a struggle, or a blessing. But I agree that challenging yourself is a beautiful thing, it’s also something that can bring light to a dim life, but only do so if it’s safe or you have a parasol around. Or, if it won’t burn the house down.
Best girl Nemu should be off limits, but Keigo is a nice guy when he isn’t trying to act cool. I could see them becoming more in the future though I doubt he will ever control wolf.
B: Good/Solid
10. The Water Magician. Ep. 4
Oh yea baby, we’re in the dungeons now. Hitting the Isekai checklist is what makes or breaks an Isekai, though straying away from the formula is what has made some of the most popular iskeai what they are. Following the checklist doesn’t make an anime bad however, it’s all about execution.
We got some high level action today, the fightwas really good. Ryo is strong and is even acknowledged as such in this episode. Was he strong enough to win however, I think he wasn’t. And if they will return stronger than we need Ryo to get stronger, or not be afraid to end a life if which I think he had the chance but held back.
8/10, hear me out, dragon girls are it.
11. Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now wander the Dungeon. Ep. 4
Ladies and gentleman, the beach episode is here, somewhat.
If nothing else, Boxxo must have been a very creative guy in his previous life.
Lamis moving on from a life seeking revenge is nice, losing purpose is never easy after all. But the main man Boxxo is good words so we have no fear of her spiraling.
Truly, in a endless battle, magic vending machine sounds like a god send. And, it is for that reason, that this anime somehow works. No one can explain it, but man is it a nice watch.
7.8/10
12. A Couple of Cuckoos. Ep. 3
A classic Umino family beat down to teach a son not to be scum is just the way to do it, man is Mama Umino scary.
I like Ai, but she’s an anomaly in all this. She, having read the manga, is the healthiest relationship Nagi could have. She’s not related in any way, and she’s not manipulative like Hiro, yet Nagi is someone who can’t look past his own obsessions. I understand, I’ve made similar decisions in my past.
Somehow, someway, I believe Erika will be the winner. We get some time with them, they even question the possibility of falling in love. The author enjoys writing toxic relationships however, so it’s a a long road ahead for anyone wo e declared the winner.
7/10, Sachi winning would break my mind
13. The Rising of the Shield Hero. Ep. 3
Atla’s loyalty to Naofumi is is deeper than any other I have seen in anime for a long time. For better or worse, she will die for Naofumi and I believe she is the most devoted to Naofumi who, while I have my issues with him, is deserving of such loyalty given the lives he’s saved.
We have the duel upcoming and I’m sure there will be dirty tricks, though it would be nice for the white tigers to mop the floor here. My only question is, why is Naofumi even participating? Just leave bro.
7.5/10
C: It’s ok/Fine
These are shows I happen to pick up but struggle to finish. Still watchable, but not without a good break in between episodes.
14. Watari-Kun’s ****** Is about to Collapse. Ep. 3
Satsuki enjoyed herself a little too much there.
Allow me to rant. Often we see romances with one guy being the center of a love triangle or larger, but often he is not interesting enough for this to be believable. My only wish, is for the guy to be charismatic, or somewhat interesting for me to believe that multiple girls are fawning over him.
Back to it, I like Satsuki. Through her strange actions and mannerisms, she seems like a caring person to me. It’s clear she loves Nao-kun but is unwilling to reveal why she destroyed the garden before which will be the main reason he doesn’t want to be with her. I’d like for the reveal to be this season, I love me some progress after all.
D: Do Not Recommend
Shows I do not recommend you watch for various issues.
F: Bad
Anime with glaring issues that make them not only difficult to watch, but the watcher angry at times.
Last. Rent a Girlfriend. Ep. 40
People would kill for a girlfriend like Ruka, someone who just wants you. But Kazuya is so enamored with the most indecisive person on the planet that he can’t see past his idiocy.
For all the hate she gets, Mami is one of the best parts of the anime because there is more than just the terrible thing Kazuya has got going on. Even if Mami is crazy and obsessed, that is far more interesting than Kazuya squealing over Chizuru for the millionth time.
3/10, Sumi 10/10
Some words
More to come soon!
