Anime Summer 2025 weekly ranking August 15th to August 21st

These rankings are as of the episodes premiering August 15th to August 21st

S: Must Watch

Episodes I believe you must watch or are missing out on.

1. Call of The Night. Ep. 6

Niko being a teacher was a surprise.

Ko is surprisingly confident, he’ll make a hell of a vampire. I’m just as surprised as Nazuna, though I don’t think we’ve ever seen Ko in class.

So, Kyoko is Anko, right? Interesting though I considered that they may have a past already, just not like this. It would clear a lot of why Anko does what she does, and why she is so against vampires. Even more so after the realization that her father cared for her more than she thought.

The light Kyoko sat in vs the darkness Nazuna remains has a lot of meaning, not just for what they are. It’s the eventual split that will force them to odds, despite their past relationship.

9/10, Ko’s the jealous type

2. Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. Ep. 7

Ikumi is a nice person, for better or worse, as is Sakuta.

I love that they tied in the universe from the movie into this arc, it brings an interesting connection between Ikumi and Sakuta. Are their worlds so intertwined that one must suffer for the other to succeed?

Ikumi may be my favorite character because her decision is something no would pass. A world where everything goes better is a dream, but knowing that it isn’t your world must be suffocating and it is conveyed well through Ikumi.

Continuing on, Ikumi is a powerful message of not allowing the past to drive the future. Even with the heavy burden of our mistakes, I agree with Sakuta that continuing to live can bring about something nice that was never expected.

I should take his advice.

9.5/10, Ikumi is wife material. We riot for Mai.

3. Gachiakuta. Ep. 6

This episode brought back a tone we haven’t seen since the start. It is still dark and grimy even, but that sense of danger weakened until now. Gris’s near death was just that, but it’s also the reason we can see Rudo back in form.

I like Rudo’s power more than ever now. Often, the main characters power can become stale but we have a great path to some creative powers in the future. I hope the author continues to be as creative in the future.

Jabber is the right kind of nut. Fun to watch lose his mind and get beaten down by Rudo. Incredible showing from Rudo as well, the guy is just so easy to support.

9/10, this is becoming one of my favorite of the season.

4. Dan Da Dan. Ep. 20

I just put new speakers in the car, but it took all day. Yea.

Anyway! I’m all for supporting the underdog, especially when their as earnest as Okarun. Glad he is getting a much deserved power up as well. it may be needed soon.

It’s enjoyable to hear the voice actors have fun this is anime. The group of artist in this episode especially seem to be here for a good time. Turbo granny also seems to have a lot of fun in this anime, though it’s always hard to not see Luffy when she speaks.

I hope Turbo Granny and Okarun become even closer, loved their pose when confronting Jiji.

8.5/10, not listening to music should be a criminal offense. God, the exorcism song is so good.

A: Very Good

Good episodes, anime I would recommend to someone looking for something to watch.

5. Kaiju No. 8. Ep. 17

Hell yea! Kafka and Narumi were awesome in that fight, it’s just that their opponent is one tricky kaiju.

Kafka going to see his old team was nice. Knowing that his transformation is progressing adds a great amount of urgency to the anime as well. He’s more motivated than ever and I’m very excited to see everyone get stronger.

I hope we get the final fight with 9 this season as well, I need it.

The ending with Kaiju no. 10 was interesting as well. Will they be able to use its power or control it? Of course, this is an unprecedented action, but one they must take to go against something as powerful as no. 9.

8.7/10, it’s personal now.

6. The Rising of the Shield Hero. Ep. 7

And so, we are in Q’ten Lo.

I like Raphtelia’s outfit, though Naofumi is as oblivious as ever, others, not so much.

We’re already seeing some of the orders form the emperor and how people fear the magistrate. The question now is how Naofumi will change this land, if it all that is. The law itself is stifling the people and I believe Naofumi will have supports in this land. A full out war would be interesting, but I doubt it will be anything as such. For now we’ll have to settle for the battle to get everyone to Qten Lo. Kudos to Naofumi for being quick to action.

7.5/10, for people who were supposed to be hidden, Naofumi’s group sucks at it.

7. My Dress-Up Darling. Ep. 20

There’s nothing wrong with a little wieght!

I remember seeing Mia in the manga and thinking she was the prettiest girl in the series, I think it still holds true.

Marin freaking out was funny. While I don’t see a problem with some weight, her livelihood does depend on it.

A reminder to everyone that even the most beautiful lack self control. Good on Marin for getting right to it, even though I don’t blame her for eating all that delicious food.

This was a cute episode overall that brought a new hair style Marin to the anime. The picture scene montage was very well done and one of my favorite things the team has done. It really showed off how photogenic Marin is.

8/10, thick thighs save lives, also, secure the sugar mommy Gojo.

8. Witch Watch, Ep. 17

I’m not cool with Keigo taking best girl, but oh well. Nemu looks great in her yellow dress by the way.

I agree that Keigo and Nemu have some similarities with the pressure they have felt. Hard work is not always enough, and, even then, some expectations can never be satisfied. Nemu’s case in particular is on the extreme end of this. So, if Keigo can help her out of this, then I’ll support the guy.

The scenes of Keigo skating were great. The transition between him ice skating were beautiful to watch. This episode proved that the guy is trustworthy when need be, he also had a killer line when catching Nemu.

8/10, I’m Keigo’s biggest hater now

B: Good/Solid

9. A Couple of Cuckoos. Ep. 7

You know, Ai has a point. I do see Ai and Nagi as family more than a couple, never thought about that. Also, she made a great presentation and offers the stay at home dad lifestyle, how could you say no to that?

Marriage is a beautiful but difficult union. I think it is nice, even if I don’t care to get married myself. Still, I’m glad these two talked about the misconceptions about it. Both have fair points.

They should have given Mama Erika some epic bad guy music. But she does reveal what I believe is the greatest flaw of this anime. Sosuke. Having read ahead some, the guy’s addition makes no sense to me but time will tell all.

End game:

Sosuke + Erika

Ai + Nagi

Hiro + a mental asylum

Little sister + I don’t know, someone

7/10, panty exchanges is crazy. Also, I can’t stand Hiro good lord

10. Watari-Kun’s ****** Is about to Collapse. Ep. 7

Tachibana should just date glasses and end the love triangle.

But forget all that, we got a new girl to add to the love polygon! Me personally, I like pink hair, though it’s off to a rough start.

As much as I believe Satsuki will be end game, there is nothing to dislike about Ishihara. She was a sweetheart this episode and I wonder how the author will separate the lovebirds as the story continues. Still, making lunch for your loved one is a killer move and she is in the lead by a lot as of now.

7/10, just date glasses and blondy. Wild ending by the way, the nuclear, or Ruka option.

C: It’s ok/Fine

These are shows I happen to pick up but struggle to finish. Still watchable, but not without a good break in between episodes.

D: Do Not Recommend

Shows I do not recommend you watch for various issues.

F: Bad

Anime with glaring issues that make them not only difficult to watch, but the watcher angry at times.

Last. Rent a Girlfriend. Ep. 44

Yea she’s crazy, but that’s better than an indecisive mess. I said it.

You’d think this is Kazuya’s first time ever seeing Mizuhara, or a girl in general. I will say, Kazuya is pretty good at describing, I’ll give him that.

Look I don’t think Kazuya is a bad guy, but he is pitiful. Honestly, this could have been a good story of an unconventional relationship becoming serious. But our main duo just has too many flaws that never change. We’re too far in for these two to feel as they did in episode 2.

I take it back, this guy is fawning over another girl. He’s just a depraved pervert. I want Mami to put them both in a submission hold.

2/10, but like I said Mami looks best in her swim suit, 10/10 for her.
